My first trip to Rötteln Burg

Lörrach is a small city which is located in the border of Germany, it’s a city part of Baden Wurttemberg. Many sources claimed that Baden Wurttemberg is a prosperous province. This province directly touches Switzerland on the south and France on the east. That’s why you can find a multicultural-life atmosphere here. Many people talk in English. Even you may find they talk in Deutsch, they understand English! So, don’t worry about the language-shocks.

I got day off on October 2nd! Then my Malaysian friends asked if I wanted to join them to go to the Rötteln Burg (Rötteln Castle). Of course I was in!
Zima and Afiq

I looked up to the internet about this castle. Rötteln Castle was built in the 11th century and demolished on June 29, 1678. According to (schloesser-und-gaerten.de), Rötteln Castle is the third-largest ruined castle in Baden Wurttemberg and one of the region’s most impressive medieval fotresses. Rötteln Castle sits up on the hill, in the southwestern corner of Baden-Wurttemberg. I guess Ed Sheeran’s song “Castle on the hill” is the best song to accompany your journey to this castle, might he gets inspired by this castle?
Evita and I, yes this is me! :D

This castle only 3.1 km away from where i stay, not too far. Then we decided to walk to reach Rötteln Castle. I agreed if the distance isn’t far away, but I never imagine about the track! It was so uphill. I need to go up up and up, in the rest of 1 km close to the castle we needed to walk to the 45°- 60° slope of the ground. For me it was kind a climb. But I believe if you are a mountain climbers or rock climbers reach for this castle is NOTHING! But I almost fainted. It took 70 minutes length of journey, if you check on google maps it supposed to be only 46 minutes.

After a very tiring-long journey, finally 7 of us arrive on the top of the mountain where the Rötteln Castle sits and getting old day by day. Actually, you may find it as a ruins of castle, some part of it already gone. Overall, the foundation still strong enough to make this castle ruins stands to against the weather and the times.

Long time ago this castle used to be the Baden’s southernmost stronghold in the Upper Rhine Valley as military significance. And also, this castle was the family seat of the house of the Rötteln. So this castle holds a lot of memory and history of the yesteryear story.  Even this castle ruins gives rich knowledge for the guests, it only costs 2.00 Euro for the entry ticket for student and 2.50 Euro for non-student visitor.

From the top of the castle you can see Switzerland and Germany at the same time. This castle provides you a binocular, compass and maps to tell you which part is Switzerland and which part is Germany. Even without binocular you can clearly see the forest covered with a colorful leaves on your left side. And when you see on your right side, you will find a busy city with some department stores, swirling overpass and houses. You can feel the cold wind touches your skin, on the other hand your eyes will be shined by sunshine. Autumn vibes on the top of the Rötteln castle is the best moment in my life!

Besides the view on the top of castle ruins, you can also visit the small museum that collected the historical stuffs from this old-life castle, such as warrior clothes, warrior weapons, pictures and so on. In the end of your trip, you can buy some souvenirs here. I bought 2 postcards written “Rötteln Burg” on the front side, it only costs 50 cents for a postcard.

On the way back home, the way just went down! So, I could smile along the way. I passed Milka factory at that time, it was 03.00PM. The factory gave us the chocolate flavor. This is the nicest thing for living near chocolate factory. Before headed to home, I decided to go to Lidl Store, I bought a bar of milka chocolate. Milka factory does a  great marketing strategy without put any advertisement.

VERY IMPORTANT NOTES :
wherever you go, whenever you enter to any tourism attractions that needed a paid-entry-ticket, DON'T DOUBT TO SAY THAT YOU ARE A STUDENT. There is always discount for student! :)
